Toum Teav Mekong Cruise

TBuilt in Cambodia out of hard tropical woods and using traditional methods, the Toum Teav was the first cruise boat to travel on the Mekong river from Siem Reap all the way to Saigon, from Cambodia to Vietnam, offering high quality accommodation with a blend of charm and tradition.

In the Toum Teav's semi-open air restaurant, their chef offers a whole selection of European, Vietnamese and Cambodian specialties. You can choose to stay on the sundeck overlooking the river or in our large library lounge, decorated in neo-colonial style. The Toum Teav's low water draught allows it to stop very close to the villages along the river shores.

The Toum Teav operates two regular rotations from Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) to Phnom Penh and from Phnom Penh to Saigon. You'll be able to enjoy the Mekong starting from the mythical city of Angkor Wat until the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. From April to June, at the end of the dry season and when the river level of the Tonle Sap is too low, the Toum Teav will not be able to reach Siem Reap. During this period the Toum Teav heads north out of Phnom Penh following the Mekong to Kampong Cham and and charming colonial Kratie, where you may spot the rare Irawaddy dolphin.

TOUM TEAV TONLE SAP CRUISE: PHNOM PENH TO SIEM REAP
Ref: 3Days/2Nights (Also from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh)
Tour Code: TTCPSD4
Day1: Monday: Phnom Penh - Kampong Trach (-/L/D)
An early start as you board the Toum Teav at 7:45 and set sail at 8:00am (Toum Teav II departs at 12:30). After a short while the first stop is the idyllic island of Koh Chen (Chinese Island). The island's villagers specialize in silver and copper ware. They make ornamental items, including delicately engraved tropical fruits, used in traditional ceremonies at pagodas or for weddings. The distant hills of Cambodia's old capital, Oudong, and its royal stupas can be seen a few kilometers away. Afterwards you set sail for Kompong Tralach and its wonderful vihara belonging to Wat Kompong Tralach Leu pagoda. To reach it involves a stroll through Kompong Tralach Krom village then crossing some gorgeous stretches of emerald rice paddy as you leave the river behind. The Vihara dates back to the early 19th century and it was most probably built on an older site, as indicated by the laterite foundations. It is home to some outstanding mural paintings, however these are now starting to suffer from weathering. Standing by itself in the middle of rice fields, it is a modest pagoda that receives very few visitors. As the sun sets you return to the Toum Tiou, sail a short distance, and then drop anchor and are treated to your 'Welcome' dinner. (The Toum Teav II visits Kompong Tralach on the morning of Day 2)
Day2: Tuesday: Kampong Chhnang - Kampong Luong (B/L/D)
The Toum Teav sets sail in the early morning and soon arrives in the town of Kompong Chhnang, which is one of the largest fishing ports on the Tonle Sap. Although fish farming is widely practiced in the area, Kompong Chhnang is better known for its pottery and earthenware which has remained unchanged in style for centuries, and which is produced in sufficient quantities to supply the entire country. And not to be overlooked are the products of the Thnot tree (the sugar palm - a real national symbol) that abounds in the area, such as the mellow tasting, caramel-colored sugar cake and the potentially potent sugar palm wine. After some sightseeing the Toum Teav continues to Kompong Luong, where local boats will come alongside and sail you around this fascinating, remote, completely self-sufficient, floating town. Here you will see a floating school, floating ice-making factories, and floating pagodas, service stations, pigsties, stores, boat and television repair shops, video clubs, karaoke bars, a police station... everything is floating on the water. All trades are represented and everybody from children to grandparents go by boat through the network of canals that cross this little town. This evening the Toum Teav drops anchor amidst the enchanting flooded forest. This evening, your last aboard the Toum Teav, you will enjoy cocktails and the Captain's farewell dinner. During the low water season Feb - June instead of sailing to Kompong Luong the Toum Teav sails you to Chhnok Tru, where local boats take you around the biggest floating market on the Tonle Sap. This evening the Toum Teav drops anchor close to Chhnok Tru. (The Toum Teav II is not able to visit Kompong Luong and drops anchor at the entrance to the Tonle Sap lake)
Day3: Wednesday: Kampong Luong - Siem Reap (B/-/-)
This morning you sail across the Tonle Sap lake passing more floating villages before reaching Siem Reap Port at around 11:00am, having had a wonderfully relaxing and rewarding few days. During the low water season Feb - June instead of sailing on the Toum Teav to Siem Reap you will be transferred by speedboat. On this morning the The Toum Teav II visits Chhnok Tru floating village, arriving in Siem Reap at approx. 17:30. During the low water season Feb - June a visit to the floating village is not possible. Occasionally towards the end of the dry season it is not possible to sail all the way to Siem Reap, on these occasions road transfers will be provided.
